Second round of the Italian Supermoto Championship: Malone also wins in Ottobiano

On Sunday, May 9th, the second round of the Italian Supermoto Championship was held at the Ottobiano (PV) track, concurrently with the Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria Regional Championship.

It was another winning weekend for the team. In the S4 category, Marco Malone managed to perform his best on a track unfamiliar to him. After morning qualifying, which placed him in third position, he started race 1 in the lead and maintained it until the checkered flag, also setting a fastest lap time of 56.776. In race two, Marco started in third position but immediately pursued the leading duo of Sanchioni-Vandi. He then managed to overtake Vandi and finished second, 0.186 milliseconds behind Sanchioni. Malone finished the day in first place and leads the Championship standings with a 200-point lead over Sanchioni.

It was also a positive Sunday in the S3 category, with Giacomo Bolognesi finishing race 1 in second place. He was a bit slower in race 2, finishing fifth, but still managed to secure third place on the podium for the day.

Junior Andrea Benvenuti also deserves a mention: after setting the seventh-fastest time in qualifying, Andrea managed to secure a fifth-place finish in race two and a seventh in race two. Benvenuti finished the day in sixth place overall.

Also noteworthy are the placings of the riders competing in the Regional Championship:

S4 category: fourth place for Fabiano Bartoli, fourteenth place for Lorenzo Surace, sixteenth place for Paolo Volpi.

S2 category: fourteenth place for Alessandro Lauri.

Team Principal Gilda Benazzi comments: "We also did well at Ottobiano, where we did fewer tests compared to Ortona. Malone managed to find the right feeling on this track as well. Bolognesi and Benvenuti also performed well, redeeming themselves from the previous race. Now a short break, but without losing focus for the Viterbo round on June 6th."
