Second round of the Italian Championship in Ottobiano

The second stage of the Supermoto Italian Championship took place on Sunday, May 1st, at the Ottobiano track in Pavia.

The S4 category was very competitive right from the morning's qualifying sessions: Marco Malone #52 achieved the third-fastest time, just a few hundredths behind Morosi and Vandi. Guido Cilla #173 was further back, placing seventeenth on the starting grid.

In race one, Malone immediately took the lead, but on the second lap, he suffered a slide due to dirt on the track from a previous fall and found himself having to climb back from nineteenth to sixth position. Cilla finished in seventeenth place.

In the second heat, Malone, after a lightning-fast start, positioned himself in second place behind Vandi and was closely followed by Morosi, who, however, could not get the better of the rider from Abruzzo.

It was a difficult day for Guido Cilla, who also finished seventeenth in race two.

Marco Malone finished the day's classification in third place and moved up to third position in the championship standings. Guido Cilla, on the other hand, finished with a twenty-first overall placement for the day and is currently fifteenth in the championship standings.

The S Junior category races were also full of excitement: after a second-place qualifying time for Andrea Benvenuti #263, in race one, the young rider from Romagna was forced to start from the pit lane due to a technical problem with his bike. However, he managed to recover and finished in fifth position. In race two, Benvenuti finished in second place with a best lap of 1.40.101.

Andrea achieved fourth place overall for the day and maintained his red plate as championship leader.

Gilda Benazzi, FRT2 Team Principal, commented: "It was a demanding weekend for all riders. With Malone in race one, we were unlucky, but in race two, we showed that we are competitive. It was a difficult day for Cilla and also for Benvenuti, who nonetheless managed to limit the damage. Now we're back to work for the next round in Busca on June 12th."

Next appointments: Interregional Championship on May 29th in Ottobiano (PV) and Italian Championship on June 12th in Busca (CN).
