Fourth leg of the Italian Championship in Ortona: Benvenuti victorious again, Malone 2nd

On Sunday, July 2nd, the Italian Supermoto Championship circus moved to the splendid setting of the International Circuit of Abruzzo in Ortona (CH).

It was a very challenging weekend for the team: during Saturday's qualifiers, Malone and Cilla were victims of a crash that unfortunately sidelined Guido Cilla, preventing him from competing in the races.

In SM4 qualifying, Marco Malone #52 set the third fastest time, while Matteo Giacobbe #41 recorded the tenth fastest time.

In race one, Malone had a good start and finished the race holding third position; Matteo Giacobbe had a good performance, finishing in eighth position.

In the second heat, Malone started in second position but the race was interrupted due to a crash that involved an unfortunate Matteo Giacobbe, who was forced to retire.

At the restart, Malone once again started second and maintained the position until the end of the race, thus earning second place overall for the day.

In SM Junior, Andrea Benvenuti #263 immediately asserted his leadership: after winning the Superpole Biting in qualifying, Benvenuti took both heats.

Michael Diodato #2 also had a good performance, securing a fourth and fifth place in the respective races, earning him third place overall for the day, tied on points with Andreotti.

"Ortona brought us satisfaction with Benvenuti maintaining his red plate as leader and Diodato showing improvement. In SM4, Malone managed to secure a second place despite his wrist pain. It's a shame about Giacobbe, who could have done well in race two too," comments Team Principal Gilda Benazzi.

The Italian Championship is taking a long break before the final double header in Viterbo, scheduled for Saturday, September 2nd, and Sunday, September 3rd.
