First round of the European S4 and Interregional Lombardy Piedmont Liguria in Busca

On Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th, during the Easter weekend, the first round of the Supermoto European Championship was held in conjunction with the Lombardy, Piedmont, and Liguria Interregional Championship at Kart Planet in Busca.

On Saturday, free practice and qualifying for the S4 European Championship took place, where Marco Malone #52 set the third-fastest time, securing a spot on the third row of the starting grid for Sunday.

In the Interregional S4 category, timed practice sessions determined the starting grid, with Guido Cilla #173 starting from fourth, followed by Paolo Volpi #110 in fifth, and Fabiano Bartoli #51 in sixth. Lorenzo Surace #44 was further back in twelfth place.

The first race was held in the late afternoon, with Cilla finishing the heat in second place. Fabiano Bartoli secured fifth position, closely followed by Lorenzo Surace in seventh; Paolo Volpi, who had a false start, finished further back in 16th.

On Sunday, the two European heats took place: in race one, Malone started well and finished in third place. In race two, the rider from Teramo was unfortunately forced to retire after a few laps while battling, due to a loose bolt on the brake hose.

In the second heat of the Interregional S4, Paolo Volpi had an excellent start and finished fifth, behind Guido Cilla in fourth position. Bartoli was not far behind in seventh, while Surace finished fourteenth after crashing a few meters after the start.

Interregional Lombardy S4 category results for the day:

Guido Cilla #173 second place

Fabiano Bartoli #51 fourth place

Paolo Volpi #110 seventh place

Lorenzo Surace #44 ninth place

"It was a very demanding weekend, a shame for Malone in race 2, he had the potential for a good race. Well done to the guys from the Interregional who broke the ice in this first round," commented Gilda Benazzi on the two days of races at the Piedmontese circuit.

Next on the calendar is Ottobiano on May 1st for the second race of the Italian Supermoto Championship.
