Great show in Ortona for the first stage of the Italian Championship
On Sunday, April 14, the first round of the Italian Supermoto Championship took place at the International Circuit of Abruzzo in Ortona.
Four riders lined up in the SM4 category for the FRT2 team and put on a show right from the morning qualifying sessions: a renewed Marco Malone #52 took pole position with a time of 1.00.633; his teammate Iacopo Arduini #05 was not far behind with an excellent third place. Teammates Matteo Giacobbe #41 and Alex Sciorsci #100 were a bit further back, in tenth and fifteenth place respectively.

In the afternoon races, the excitement continued: in race 1, after a perfect start, Malone and Arduini pulled ahead with a very high pace. Malone then suffered a slide that dropped him to third position, while Arduini, after a duel with Sciarretta, finished the heat in second place. Giacobbe made an excellent comeback, finishing in eighth position; Sciorsci, however, was unlucky, closing in seventeenth position after contact with another rider.

In race two, Malone and Arduini had another spectacular start: Malone then managed to gain an advantage and lead the race all the way to the finish line, while Arduini finished in third position. Giacobbe also had a positive heat, finishing eighth again, while Sciorsci had a harmless fall and finished in sixteenth position.

In the overall standings for the day, Malone finished in second place, followed by Arduini in third. Giacobbe secured seventh place, and Sciorsci finished seventeenth.

A very positive day also in the SM Young category with Michael Diodato #2: after the third fastest time in qualifying, Michael finished both heats in second position, thus earning the second step of the podium for the day.

"The championship started very well; we showed that we are very competitive. It's a shame about Malone in race 1, but it's only the first race, and we are working in the right direction. Diodato also did great with an excellent second place in the Young category," commented Gilda Benazzi, FRT2 Racing Team Principal.
