Two second-place finishes in Battipaglia for Malone and Benvenuti

On Sunday, May 7th, the second round of the Italian Supermoto Championship was held at the Circuito del Sele in Battipaglia (Sa).

In the SM 4 category, Malone competed in two good heats on the Campanian circuit: starting with the second fastest time in qualifying, he finished both races in second position and managed to maintain the red plate as Championship leader.

Guido Cilla, on the other hand, after a tenth fastest time in qualifying, had to settle for eighteenth place in race one, due to a technical problem, and eleventh in race two.

Teammate Matteo Giacobbe also didn't have luck on his side: after the thirteenth fastest time in qualifying, he finished race one in twelfth position, while in race two, he finished sixteenth after a fall.

In the SM Junior category, Andrea Benvenuti immediately secured pole in qualifying, followed in fourth place by his teammate Michael Diodato.

In race one, Benvenuti started well but suffered two falls in the off-road sections; however, he managed to recover to fourth position behind Diodato, who finished with a good third place.

In the second heat, Benvenuti started well and pulled away, finishing in first place, while Diodato suffered a fall in the first off-road section, forcing him to finish in seventh position.

Andrea Benvenuti finished the day in second place and maintained the red plate as Championship leader. Diodato concluded the day in fourth place.

''We managed to defend ourselves well on a track we didn't know and brought home two good second places, both in S4 with Malone and in SM Junior with Benvenuti, which keep us at the top of the Championship. It's a shame for Cilla and Giacobbe, and Diodato's performance in the first heat was also good. The next one will be Pomposa and we will try to give our best,'' commented Team Principal Gilda Benazzi.

Next appointment on May 14th in Ottobiano for the second round of the Lombardy Piedmont Liguria Interregional Championship.
