FRT2 Double Win at Ottobiano: Malone and Benvenuti Finish First for the Day

On Sunday, April 16th, the Italian Supermoto Championship kicked off at the Ottobiano track in Pavia.

The highly competitive SM4 category immediately delivered strong emotions: after the morning qualifiers, Malone #52 stopped the clock in second position on the starting grid, just 24 hundredths of a second behind Morosi.

His teammates Guido Cilla #173 followed with the tenth spot and newcomer Matteo Giacobbe #41 in thirteenth.

In the afternoon races, tension was high: in the first heat, Malone started in the lead but gave up the position to Morosi, finishing second behind him. Cilla had some trouble at the start and finished thirteenth, followed by Giacobbe in fifteenth position.

In race two, after a restart due to a crash in the back, Malone immediately took the lead and defended against attacks from Ruiz and Morosi, finishing in first place and securing the top spot of the day.

Guido Cilla improved, finishing in ninth position, while Giacobbe had to withdraw due to a technical issue. Also noteworthy was the wild card entry of Interregional rider Fabiano Bartoli #51, who participated in the race and finished with a nineteenth place overall.

The novelty for the SM Junior category this season is the presence of an off-road section in every race:

a rampant Andrea Benvenuti #263 won both heats, finding the right rhythm on the Lombardy track.

The debut of newcomer Michael Diodato #2 was also good, finishing with a fifth place overall.

Team Principal Gilda Benazzi commented on the race day: "It was a very demanding weekend, full of strong emotions. Malone found the right rhythm with the bike and the track and showed it in the race. Cilla is also improving, and Benvenuti managed to find the right balance between the off-road and asphalt sections. A round of applause also for Giacobbe and Diodato, both making their debut, and for our 'rock' Bartoli. Now we're back to work for the next stage."

Next appointment is May 7th in Battipaglia (SA) for the second round of the Italian Championship.
