Italian Supermoto Championship 2020 Round Two Latina
On Sunday, August 23rd, under a scorching sun and with blistering temperatures, the second Italian Championship race was held at the 'Il Sagittario' Circuit in Latina.
The S1 category was very exciting, with the Frt2 trio of riders putting on a show.
In the morning's official practice sessions, a rampant Gioele Filippetti took fourth place, followed by Bartolini in fifth. Borella was slightly further back with the eighth fastest time on the grid.
In race one, after a poor start, Filippetti was forced to retire after a fall. Borella missed the start and found himself in tenth. He immediately started a comeback and moved up to seventh position, behind his rival Sammartin. It was an attacking race for a revived Fabrizio Bartolini, who immediately moved into second position. He then finished third, ahead of Chareyre.
In race two, Filippetti started well and maintained fourth position. He then finished with a deserved third place, ahead of teammate Bartolini, who was fourth, always consistent and improving. Borella started well, immediately gaining sixth place and then climbing to fifth, behind Fabrizio Bartolini. The day concluded with Bartolini in first place and Borella in second in the Italian classification, and Bartolini in third and Borella in fourth in the International classification. Filippetti finished with a fifth place in the Italian and a seventh in the International.
Edgardo Borella commented on the second race of the season: "This Sunday we bring home a good result, improvements have been seen compared to the previous race, a sign that we are moving in the right direction. Now we will get back to work to improve further and be ready for the double race on October 10th and 11th in Viterbo. I thank my whole team and all my sponsors again".
"After the Ortona race, where I couldn't express my potential, I found the right concentration and the correct synergy with the bike that led me to this excellent result. I thank my entire team for their work," explains Bartolini. Filippetti concludes: "What a race... what emotions... The result certainly wasn't there due to the crash in race 1, but for the first time, unexpectedly, after so much hard work, I was up there, fighting it out with the best in the world."
In S4, Iacopo Arduini managed to achieve a well-deserved fourth place in qualifying, despite a slide during a flying lap. In race 1, Iacopo started well, immediately taking second place behind Vandi and then finishing first. He was unlucky in race 2, when he was in the lead after several overtakes, he crashed, damaging his bike and forcing him to retire. Arduini still climbed to the third step of the podium for the day.
Also in S4, we highlight the debut of young Edoardo Savini, who finished his first Championship race with a seventeenth-place finish for the day.
Iacopo Arduini comments: "The weekend started on the right foot; we achieved fourth place in timed practice, which allowed me to gain three positions at the start. About 5 laps from the end, I managed to pass Vandi under braking and finished first in race 1. In the second heat, I didn't get a good start and found myself in fifth position, but halfway through the race, I managed to take the lead. It's a shame about the crash that compromised the final result. I thank my entire team for their commitment and dedication, and all my sponsors."
Another great race for Giacomo Bolognesi in the S3 under 24 category, who, with two second places in the two respective heats, managed to secure the top step of the podium for the day.
We unfortunately announce the wrist injury of Marzio Ravaioli #64 during race 1, and we send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
The Italian Championship will take a break until the weekend of October 11th and 12th in Viterbo for a double race on Saturday and Sunday, but the team will already be busy this weekend in Castelletto di Branduzzo (PV) for the North West Regional race.
